For our newest cocktail, DIY Cocktails and I came up with the Plum Smash.
A smash is a classic cocktail where the fruit is smashed or crushed with the liquor. We muddled fresh plums with bourbon, simple syrup, lemon juice, and just a bit of fresh thyme.
The result was a delicious, refreshing summery drink. If you use good ripe plums, this drink is sweet and fruity with a touch of lemon, a touch of thyme, and a touch of vanilla from the bourbon. I think this might be one of of our better concoctions. But then, I always think that.
Plum! Smash!
Here’s the recipe:
Plum Smash
(Makes one cocktail)
- 1 1/2 ripe plums, the juicier the better
4 sprigs fresh thyme
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
1.5-2 oz bourbon
Directions:
Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Muddle thoroughly until the plum is juicy and the thyme has released its oils. Shake with ice. Strain into a glass over more ice. Garnish with a thyme sprig, if desired. Enjoy!
Yummy! I love summer drinks. Your lemon lavender cocktail looks good, too.
I was inspired by A Beach Cottage to make my own Limoncello, and on a subsequent search for info on Limoncello I found your blog. I’m going to serve it at my garden party next weekend. Yum!
Well, now I know what I should do with all the plums on our tree! That is, in about a week or so when they’re actually ripe. Yay!
