Weird Ice Cream Flavors

NPR has an article with recipes for strange ice cream flavors. They include Black Pepper Ice Cream, Basil And Pine Nut Praline Ice Cream, and Caramelized Onion And Balsamic Ice Cream.
What do you think? I’m curious. The article also mentions garlic ice cream, which I think could be good.
What’s the strangest flavor of ice cream you’ve ever tasted?

  1. The strangest flavor I’ve ever had was kiwi. I’d love to make an olive oil & black pepper ice cream, just for kicks, but am afraid it would last too long in the house!
Lottie + Doof has a recipe for sweet corn ice cream that I also think would be neat to try.

  2. I am guessing the strangest Ice cream flavor I ever tried wold have to be Tomato. Strange and yet very good. Like sweet tomato soup frozen. Otherwise, it would have to be bubble gum.

  3. Ooh, I’d love to try the basil pine nut and the black pepper, but I dunno, I’m having trouble imagining the alliums in an ice cream that tastes good. My strangest flavors I’ve tried so far: cucumber, strawberry-basil, cherry blossom, and strawberry jalapeno. Technically those last two were gelato. They were all good.

  4. I’ve had some odd ones at a local gelato place that prides itself on featuring a crazy variety. I’ve tried carrot, dill pickle, chocolate chili, black sesame, & gorgonzola/pear, which was my favourite.

  5. I come from a town near the garlic capital (Gilroy, Ca), and one of the things that is COMMON in our stores is garlic ice cream. My favorite would have to be chocolate garlic ice cream. 🙂
