Forgotten Gin Cocktails

The Kitchn has a list of forgotten gin cocktails, classic pre-Prohibition cocktails using gin. It covers The Gin Sour, The Aviation, The Casino, and The Fitzgerald.
I don’t know how “forgotten” these are, since I’ve definitely had an Aviation or two in my life, but I love classic cocktails. (In fact, I’ve made a few of them before–here’s The Income Tax Cocktail and The Moonshine Cocktail.) The one I’m most intrigued with on the Kitchn’s list is The Fitzgerald, mostly because it makes me think of the writer, F. Scott Fitzgerald. Here’s the recipe:
The Fitzgerald
makes 1 cocktail
Ingredients:

    2 oz gin
    3/4 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice
    3/4 oz simple syrup
    2 dashes angostura bitters

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a shaker over ice; shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Add a few dashes of bitters.

  1. I totally just made myself one of these. An excellent use for the homemade simple syrup hanging out in the fridge! 🙂
