Here’s a new one: edible gold that you can spray onto your food. While I have had a cocktail or two with gold flakes in it, I have never actually eaten gold. But now a German company has created Esslack, a food spray paint that let’s you turn a tomato into a gold ball.

This product could have some creative applications, especially in the hands of a good chef. On the other hand, it makes me think of Diane de Poitiers, the mistress of 16th-century French king, Henry II. A British medical journal recently discovered that she died from drinking gold, which she believed would preserve her youth.
